A First in Solar Power

We're doing something no energy supplier has done before

So Energy customers can now generate their own rooftop renewable electricity as we become the first to roll-out a full-service solar and storage solution, following successful trials last year.

The solar and battery package involves installing rooftop solar panels and a battery in customers’ homes, which allows them to generate and store their own 100% renewable energy.

New and existing customers can now use So Energy’s online portal to check their eligibility, digitally map out solar panels on an image of their rooftop, before getting an instant quote on the carbon and money they can save.

We are able to remotely control each battery to optimise their use, factoring in projected home energy consumption, weather data and wholesale prices, as well as the carbon intensity and capacity of the grid. We can then use smart controls to decide when to draw energy from the home battery, when to charge the battery, and when to sell electricity back to the grid to get the best price. This then enables us to save customers up to 70% on their energy bills.

Customers can choose from two kinds of solar panels with different levels of power to suit their needs and can monitor usage through an app. This new offer will be linked to customers’ normal energy bill and all aftercare is included. Taken together, this solution is the industry’s first online one-stop-shop for customers thinking about installing their own rooftop solar and home battery.

Simon Oscroft, Co-Founder of So Energy, said:

“As the primary interface between energy consumers and the energy system, suppliers have a responsibility to do all they can to encourage their customers to make green choices. And it’s our job to make these choices as easy and appealing as possible.

“That’s why at So Energy we’re walking the walk by being the first supplier to launch an end-to-end solar and storage product that people can sign-up for within minutes through a simple online portal. It’s never been easier for customers to start generating their own ultra-local green energy and export any excess back to the grid, saving themselves hassle, money and carbon.”
