- The 70% calculation is based on a £9,310 system (8x505W panels, 5kWh battery, south-facing 35 (degree) London roof, 26.35p/kWh unit rate, 0.15p/kWh export). MCS estimates 3975kWh/year, covering 70% of a typical 3,500kWh households needs, saving £37,602 over 25 years.
- The 1.7p per mile calculation is based on the Tesla Model Y, which has an EV efficiency of 4.5 miles per kWh. Dividing the So EV off peak rate of 7.5p by the 4.5 efficiency (between the hours of midnight and 5am) results in the cost of 1.67p per mile (which we round up to 1.7p per mile). We use the Tesla Model Y because it was the UK's best-selling car in 2025.
