Unit rates are fixed, but higher usage than expected will mean your costs go up. Seasonal changes can also have an impact. Getting a smart meter helps with accurate billing.
With Smart Pay As You Go, you can top up online or at a Paypoint shop. The meter keeps a record of your credit, and the balance reduces as you use energy. Pay As You Go is not for everyone, and can be more expensive than a monthly payment. We recommend you read more before you explore this option.
Not necessarily. The price cap affects the unit rates and standing charges if you're on a Standard Variable Tariff. But your Direct Debit is based on your estimated annual usage and how much energy you’ve already used.
If the price cap goes down, your energy rates may go down, but your Direct Debit won’t automatically change straight away. This is because we review your payments to make sure you’re paying the right amount to cover your actual usage across the year, not just what you use in one season.
We regularly check your account to make sure your balance is on track. If your usage stays the same and lower rates mean you’re paying too much, we’ll adjust your Direct Debit accordingly. You can also request a review of your payments at any time through your online account.
Your suggested payment is worked out from the amount of energy we expect you to use in a year, your current tariff, and your account balance. You can read more about this here.
The minimum payment is slightly lower than the suggested amount. We know you might need some flexibility, so it’s okay to pay the lower amount. However, paying the minimum could lead to debt building up, which might trigger a review to increase your Direct Debit, or leave you with a bigger bill at the end of your contract.
Yes. If your account has excess credit, this will reduce the suggested and minimum payments that can be selected. This is available as an option instead of taking a refund.
We regularly check your payments to make sure you’re paying the right amount for your energy. If it looks like you might owe too much by the end of your contract, we may adjust your payments so the balance is spread out over the months. We might also change your payments if your meter readings show you’re using more or less energy than expected. You can read more about this here.
