Energy Select Committee Chair Bill Esterson MP visits So Energy offices

Bill Esterson MP visited So Energy to discuss market reform, fuel poverty support, and learned about Warm Home Discount eligibility for solar customers ahead of expected high bills this winter.

Bill Esterson MP, the Chair of the Energy Security and Net Zero (ESNZ) Committee and Labour MP for Sefton visited the So Energy offices in Chiswick this week. This was a great opportunity to show him how an energy supplier operates first-hand and discuss retail energy market reforms that are needed to ensure energy customers can access the best deals but are also protected from overcharging.

Bill was able to meet So Energists across the business, including those in the Trading and Product teams, learning how our traders buy wholesale energy for customers, and how customers can benefit from our solar and battery product. In particular, we were proud to discuss our recent Sunday Times “Best Places to Work” award and activity which advocates for broader change across the entire energy sector including Code First Girls, which encourages and supports more women into tech roles.

During the visit, the team discussed the work being done to support customers, especially those in fuel poverty that have been most impacted by the cost-of-living crisis. Including So Energy’s recent report calling for the introduction of targeted bill support ahead of expected high energy bills next winter. The ESNZ Committee play a critical role in scrutinising the work of Government, and as a challenger energy supplier we recently submitted evidence to the Cost of Energy inquiry and welcome the opportunity to further contribute to the Committee’s work.

Simon Oscroft, Co-Founder and CEO said “It was a pleasure to host Bill at our offices today, showcasing the hard work of our team and discussing our shared commitment to protect energy consumers. We thank him for his time and valuable discussion, and we look forward to continuing to work with him to support those living in fuel poverty across the UK”.
