We're proud to share that So Energy has earned the 2026 Uswitch Flex Accreditation for our So EV and So Unique tariffs.

What is the Uswitch Flex Accreditation?

The Flex Accreditation is a new independent standard launched by Uswitch. If you spot the Flex Accreditation badge while comparing deals, it means that tariff has been checked and proven to reward flexible energy use. As more homes get smart meters, EVs, solar batteries and heat pumps, shifting demand away from peak times matters more than ever, both for your bill and for the wider energy grid.

What does a tariff need to earn Flex Accreditation?

Uswitch's panel of experts checks that each tariff helps customers shift their energy use to off-peak hours to save money, with tools to track energy use and savings. We're among a handful of suppliers to have received this award.

So Energy's accredited tariffs

So EV

So EV gives electric car drivers a lower charging rate between midnight and 5am, backed by 100% renewable electricity. This means you can charge your EV, and power your home, at the lower rate between these times. Schedule your high energy-use appliances to run during these hours to make the most of the lower rate. For the current rate and full details, see our So EV tariff.

So Unique

So Unique is our innovative time-of-use tariff. It uses intelligent tech to create a personalised energy tariff based on how you use energy. By analysing your smart meter data, we create your unique, personalised rates – Peak, Off-peak, and Super Off-peak – meaning the price you pay for electricity changes depending on when you use it. This means you get benefit from savings without changing your routine, and more savings if you make small shifts in when you use energy. That personalised flexibility is exactly what earned the badge.¹ Find out more about how time-of-use tariffs work with So Unique.

What is demand-side flexibility and why does it matter?

Demand-side flexibility means shifting when you use electricity away from busy early evening hours (4pm to 7pm) and morning hours (7am to 9am) towards quieter times. During peak hours when everyone is using electricity, more pressure is put on the grid, which means fossil-fuel backup power is used to cope with the strain. By moving some of your energy use to a quieter time, you help ease that pressure, cut your bill, support a cleaner grid, and protect the planet.

How to shift your energy use and save

Small changes add up. Here's where to start:

  • Running your washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwasher overnight
  • Scheduling EV charging for So EV tariff times of midnight to 5am
  • Checking your smart meter or app to see when your energy's cheapest

Uswitch Flex Accreditation FAQs

What is the Uswitch Flex Accreditation?

It's an independent award from Uswitch, given to energy tariffs that help you save by shifting your energy use to cheaper, off-peak times.

Which So Energy tariffs are Flex Accredited?

So EV and So Unique both hold the 2026 Flex Accreditation. So EV gives electric car drivers a low overnight rate for charging their car and home, while So Unique builds personalised off-peak pricing around your own home's energy habits.

How is the Flex Accreditation awarded?

Uswitch's independent panel of energy experts sets the accreditation criteria and reviews it every year, to keep it in step with the market. Each tariff is checked against these criteria before it earns the Flex badge, so you can trust what you see.

Is the Flex Accreditation the same as the Uswitch Green Accreditation?

No. Flex Accreditation rewards tariffs that help you shift your energy use to cheaper, off-peak times. Green Accreditation recognises renewable energy credentials instead. A tariff can hold either badge, or both.

Do I need a smart meter for a flexible tariff?

Yes. A smart meter measures your energy use every half hour, which lets us apply time-of-use rates accurately. Without one, we can't offer you different rates at different times, as we'd have no way of recording it.

Should I Get a Smart Meter Installed In My Home?

Getting a smart installed in your home is both a free and smart move to make.

With a smart meter, you get real-time information about your energy usage, allowing you to make smarter choices and potentially save on your bills. Plus, it can help reduce the nation's carbon footprint and bring us closer to a greener future.
