SoEnergy has been recognised as one of the Sunday Times’ Best Places to Work in the Big Organisation category for the third year in a row, cementing its reputation as one of the UK's leading employers.
The Sunday Times Best Places to Work survey is the UK's largest and most prestigious study of employee engagement, giving organisations an honest, independent assessment of how their people truly feel about their working environment.
"This recognition belongs to every single person at So Energy," says CEO,Charlie Davies. "From the care we show our customers, to the values we live by every day, it reflects the commitment, compassion and collaborative spirit that defines our culture."
So Energy believes treating employees well directly enhances the service the company provides to its customers. In particular, strong performance in customer service, and a commitment to accountability in diversity metrics, reflect this.
So Energy celebrates alongside its parent company ESB, who ranked 3rd in Ireland’s Best Employers 2025, a fantastic achievement that highlights the strength and stability of the wider group So Energy is proud to be part of.
Over the past 12 months, the company has doubled down on efforts to ensure the business reflects the richness and diversity of the customers and communities it serves across the UK.
Highlights include:
· Charity and Community: Employees are encouraged to make a positive impact through paid volunteering days, charity donation matching, blood donation leave, and community initiatives designed to support local causes and sustainability efforts.
· Employee Value Proposition: An overhaul of the company’s Employee Value Proposition including the introduction of a Nursery benefit scheme and an EV salary sacrifice scheme.
· Affinity Group collaboration: The company collaborated with the neurodiverse affinity group to create a Reasonable Adjustment Policy. The policy sets out So Energy’s commitment to making meaningful, individualised adjustments for colleagues with disabilities, long-term health conditions, or neurodiverse needs, removing barriers that might otherwise prevent them from performing at their best.
· Internal mobility: Over a rolling 12-month period, 33% of roles were filled by internal candidates, reflecting So Energy’s commitment to developing talent from within and ensuring the right people are in the right roles at the right time.
· Voice of the Employee: Through the So Watt internal portal, colleagues are encouraged to raise ideas and identify opportunities for improvement. To date, 45% of all ideas and issues raised have been successfully actioned and closed, demonstrating the company’s commitment to listening to employees and driving meaningful change across the business.
· Wellbeing Support: Employee wellbeing is a key focus, with access to mental health resources, therapy, and life coaching through a partnership with Unmind. Flexible and hybrid working patterns, together with wellbeing initiatives and colleague support programmes, help foster a positive and inclusive working environment.
While this award is a significant milestone, So Energy views it as part of a continuous journey towards becoming a more equitable employer. Throughout 2026, the company will continue to evolve its Diversity and Belonging Strategy, close remaining gaps in representation, and call on supply-chain partners, industry networks and fellow energy suppliers to help build a more inclusive, equitable sector.
A word from CEO, Charlie Davies:
"The energy market has never been more challenging, but our people show up every day with real commitment to our customers, to each other, and to doing things the right way. That only happens when people feel they truly belong, and can bring everything they are to their work. At So Energy, we believe a culture of genuine belonging isn't separate from business performance, it's the foundation of it. There's always more work to do, and we'll keep doing it, but this recognition is a reflection of our people, not of me. I'm incredibly proud of what we've built together."
